New Tactical Microphones Designed Specifically For The Harshest Environments

Raleigh, NC, May 8 2013 Beyond Electronics, a technology leader providing rugged, real-time computing solutions to OEMs and system integrators, has introduced a new family of microphones designed for extreme environment operation. Their unique design includes all the features required to enable them to survive in noisy, dirty and wet environments that would normally destroy a microphone. In addition, by utilizing a one piece aluminum housing and potting all the electronics in a thermally conductive material, heat, shock and vibration pose no problem as well.

The microphone design incorporates two different optional microphone core sensitivities and a factory tunable circuit that controls high level noise limiting and audio range compression. This combination of features enables the microphones to be close to loud noise sources without distortion, clipping or saturation. The audio compression ratio, noise gate threshold and pre-amp gain can all be tuned for the targeted environment. Alternately, for more inert applications, the microphones can be supplied in a totally passive configuration while still retaining their environmental resistance.

The electronics interface of the microphone can be tailored to meet most system requirements. The microphone output is differential, but can be easily adapted to single ended operation. Because the unit was designed to be used in critical applications, the internal circuitry incorporates a high level of isolation. Over current, reverse current, and over voltage protection is built into the device.

Rugged-Mic was initially deployed on track vehicles and has been tested in a wide array of environments. It is available for immediate service.
